After Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram Leela, everyone knows that Sanjay Leela Bhansali is a huge admirer of the talent of Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh. But they were never the first choice for Padmavati. Bhansali had wanted to make this film right after Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Salman Khan but both of them rejected the film because they had parted ways at that time. However that’s not all. 

When the ace director finally decided to make the film last year, he approached Salman and Aishwarya again. While Aishwarya said yes (considering that she would have no scenes with Khan’s character Allaudin Khilji), Salman refused to do the film. 

A source informed the leading daily that Salman would have done the film if there was a romantic angle in the film as he wanted to recreate the magic of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. But since there wasn’t any, he didn’t want to play antagonist against Aishwarya.
