I called Rani beti in Veer-Zaara – Shahrukh Khan on playing an older character

We are all used to seeing the Khans play characters that are almost half their age in films today. Aamir Khan defied that with Dangal and Salman Khan will soon be playing a father to a 13-year old in Remo D’Souza’s next. But Shahrukh Khan has done it years ago in Veer Zaara, where for a small portion of the film, he played an old man.

Talking about playing a father, or an older role, he said, “I was a father in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998). I’m an actor. I’m okay with any character if that makes sense. I will do anything that my role demands.”

He continued, “In fact, I called Rani (Mukerji) beti in Veer-Zaara. My character was 65 years old. I was sitting with Rani and calling her beti so why would I have a problem now? I would play it again if I am required to do it.”
