Earlier titled Padmavati, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus wasn’t supposed to be released in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. But now the historical starring Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh will release in UP and not in Haryana.
Haryana’s Health Minister Anil Vij announced the ban on his Twitter account. “Film Padmavati/Padmavat banned in Haryana,” he tweeted, and later told ANI, “In the meeting, I said it (the film) should be banned in Haryana keeping in view law & order situation in state. Cabinet supported this & we decided it will be banned in Haryana.”
While the film stays banned in four Indian states, the rest will be able to witness the magic of Bhansali on the 24th of January. While the film’s official release date is January 25, a paid preview will be screened all over the country on the night of January 24.
