After the success of Padmaavat, Deepika Padukone has just been on could nine. You’d imagine that producers are lining outside her home to sign Bollywood’s most paid actress for their next film, and that truly is the case. But nothing is moving Padukone so much. The Cocktail actress is also recovering from her neck injury and a November wedding (with Ranveer Singh) is mostly on cards, but these aren’t why she’s not signed a film yet. There was Vishal Bharadwaj’s next but due to Irrfan Khan’s illness, that has been pushed indefinitely.
A source revealed to a leading daily, “Her back/neck problem is being properly attended to and she will be fine soon. As for marriage plans, they in no way impinge on her career. The reason Deepika is not signing anything new is because of the quality of roles coming her way. They are all big-banner films with top heroes. But nothing even remotely as author-backed or inspiring as Padmaavat. At this stage in her career, Deepika is no more content playing the conventional leading lady. It has to be a script that offers her as much to do as the male protagonist.”
Also, big banners like Yash Raj Films and Dharma Productions aren’t ready to pay Padukone the price she would want after earning more than Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh in Padmaavat. “She has gone on-record to claim she was paid more than the leading man in Padmaavat. Big banners like Yash Raj Films and Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions are not willing to pay her that kind of money.”
