The reason why Kangana Ranaut is a part of this industry is probably Anurag Basu. He was the one who had faith in a teenager, fourteen years ago, and gave her a film like Gangster. When the film had released in 2004, Ranaut became a household name almost instantly, and there has been no looking back for her since then. After this, the actor and director had reunited for Rakesh Roshan’s Kites. However, buzz was that they had had a fallout after the film because her character didn’t shape up how she expected it to. Later, Ranaut had stated that she did the film only because Basu wouldn’t take ‘no’ for an answer.
After the release of Queen, Basu had called Ranaut and told her how proud he was for her and the rest, as they say, is history. And now, the two are back, and how. Basu’s next, Imali, is a love story with a tangy twist, just like the female protagonist, with the same name (to be played by Ranaut).
Work on this film will commence in August, and the shoot will start immediately after the Queen actor wraps up Ahswiny Iyer Tiwari’s kabbadi film. “The prep for Imali is expected to begin by August but the film should roll only towards the year-end. The search for the male lead is on,” a source told a leading daily.
Ranaut opened up a little to a leading daily and said, “It’s too early to talk about Imali as we are starting the film around the end of the year. All I can say is that Anurag is my godfather and everything I am today is because of him… I can’t wait to go back to the beginning.”
