I’ve always been a fan of Saadat Hasan Manto, the celebrated Urdu writer, who wrote about the atrocities against women in pre and post-independence India, a lot under the umbrella of partition literature and more. And who better than a very accomplished director like Nandita Das to recreate the life and experience of this very powerful man and his struggle to express!
By the looks of the trailer, I can say that Manto will be one of the best films directed, written and performed not just this year but in the years to come. When you have an actor like Nawazuddin Siddiqui not just looking like Manto to the T but also playing the character extremely effortlessly, you know this film is going to do wonders! We also see a lot of the lovely Rasika Duggal in the trailer, and by the looks of it, seems like along with Nawaz, she’s going to work wonders too!
Manto’s literature started a revolution, arrived at the forefront of change. Nandita Das’ film will also weave the same magic. That’s the parallel between his life and her work!
