Mira Nair is not just one of our favourite directors but also a very critically famous one. With films like Salaam Bombay!, The Namesake, Vanity Fair, The Reluctant Fundamentalist, Queen of Katwe among others to her credit, Nair has become the sort of director actors don’t usually say no to. That’s the faith they have in her work.
But seems like Ishaan Khatter isn’t ready to take the risk. Khatter has been praised for his work in his previous two films, Majid Majidi’s Beyond The Clouds and Shashank Khaitan’s Dhadak. So when Nair approached Khatter to play the lead in her next, the latter didn’t really approve of it. A source tells a leading daily, “Mira and Ishaan had met when she narrated the story to him. The filmmaker wanted him to play the main lead in the project. It wasn’t a feature film but a web series for an international OTT platform.” Although Ishaan liked the idea, he didn’t give his nod to it. “He is two movies old and wants to establish himself in cinema before venturing into the digital space. It’s too early for him to do a web series.”
Well well, we don’t know what your thought process is, Mr Khatter, but this could be an opportunity missed!
