Sonam Kapoor Ahuja has always proved that she is here to break the rules, create her own and smash the glass ceiling. She first did it (along with sister Rhea Kapoor) with her sense of fashion and now with her sense of films. Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga is a film that’ll go down in history of Indian Cinema, for touching upon the freeness of love.
Sonam Kapoor Ahuja plays Sweety, a Punjabi girl, living in a Punjabi family who wants to get her married. They assume she’s in love with Rajkummar Rao’s Sahir Mirza, but she’s not. In fact, she’s not in love with any boy and has a ‘secret’. While I wish the trailer called her out as a homosexual directly, I will not complain, mostly because I’m sure they’re openly going to talk about it in the film. And, I bow down to Kapoor Ahuja, Rao, Anil Kapoor, Juhi Chawla, director Shelly Chopra Dhar, and producers Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Fox Star Studios for having all the possible faith in this script and to Dhar for realising that it was high time Hindi Cinema openly talks about homosexuality.
Also, sending the warmest hug to Sonam Kapoor Ahuja for agreeing to play Sweety. I really doubt any leading man would have the courage to shed off his said machoism and heroic stature to be able to play a homosexual.
