Till a few months back, Bhumi Pednekar was always the dependable actor. Not a fashion force to reckon with, but always a very sincere actor. And that is what she is here for, to be honest. The Dum Laga Ke Haisha actress never looked out of place at events or even casual outings, but let’s call a spade a spade, we never saw her as the the big thing in terms of fashion.
Pednekar’s on screen persona has always been magnetic. Whether it was while playing a large woman, Sandhya, in her debut film or Sugandha in Shubh Mangal Saavdhaan, between which she lost all the weight she had gained to play Sandhya. All her characters, including these two, have never been out there in terms of fashion. She’s mostly always played this young, feisty woman who resorts to wearing sarees and salwaar kameez’s. So, naturally, she had to maintain that subtle charisma off screen too. Pednekar did, of course, wear dresses and denims off screen. She wasn’t always in a saree, but her sensibilities of fashion were rather light weight, or so we understand.
As Pednekar’s stylist, Pranita Shetty what is the actresses original style like, and she says it is, “feminine, classic and minimalistic.” This is what Pednekar wore for an interview after the success of her debut film:
As Shetty describes it, it is everything minimalistic, classic and feminine. So how does she, as a stylist make sure that Pednekar steps out of this comfort zone, and also is Pednekar actually willing to do that?
“Bhumi is always open to trying out styles but I do try to keep in mind her personal style and work around it. It’s only then that I can assure that she is comfortable and maintains her individual sense of style,” answers Shetty, who calls “stylised classics” her personal sense of style, even though fashion and style for her are something that keep evolving.
And the fact that Bhumi Pednekar is willing to foray into a territory that was otherwise dark for her is a reflection of the talent she possess and her capability to cross borders, no matter how high they would be. She’s proved the same in terms of her acting choices and is royally doing so in terms of her understanding of fashion.
