Chhapaak: Deepika Padukone, Meghna Gulzar’s film is brilliantly disturbing and hopeful

Where has Deepika Padukone been after Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat, you ask? Perhaps preparing for what looks like the film of 2020 – Meghna Gulzar’s Chhapaak. The film is the real life story of Laxmi Agarwal an acid attack survivor, and talks about how she went on with her life even though there was almost no hope left. Gulzar’s tale is much like real life – disturbing and so full of hope. Agarwal was attacked by a suitor and his friends with acid at the age of 15, after she said she wouldn’t marry him.

Padukone seems to have outdone her performance in what is her best film, Piku. Whether she’s done it or no, only time will tell, but for now, we’re very moved by the trailer. Also starring Vikrant Massey, Chhapaak has been produced by Fox Star Studios, Meghna Gulzar, Govind Singh Sandhu and Padukone’s new venture, KA Productions, and will release on January 10, 2020.
