If you haven’t watched the Chhapaak trailer yet, that is what you need to be doing now, even before you read this piece. Watch the trailer here.
Starring Deepika Padukone and Vikrant Massey in lead roles Chhappak tells the story of real like acid attack survivor, Laxmi Agarwal, who has been leading a life in the margins ever since she was 15, until the day she realised that she is worth much more and rose from the ashes. Director Meghna Gulzar takes this real life incident and turns it into a bitting narrative of hope and courage.
At the trailer launch today, Padukone spoke about being Laxmi and how this film is the most special film of her career. Talking about meeting Laxmi for the first time, the Padmaavat actress said, “I felt I was looking at myself. Laxmi had come and she looked at me and felt she was looking at herself. She came on the first day to the set. I was extremely nervous. This was the first character I played which wasn’t ficitional or dead. There’s no better validation for me when there’s a person you’re playing who’s in front of you and says that they are happy looking at me.”
After a two year sabbatical, Padukone’s film will release on January 10, 2020.
