6 must-have kurta sets from Janhvi Kapoor and Sara Ali Khan’s wardrobe

Over time, both Janhvi Kapoor and Sara Ali Khan have established themselves as kurta queens, if we may call them that, and a lot has been written about both their kurta outings. Kapoor and Khan have time and again proved that a humble cotton kurta can go a long way, whether it is at airports, at dance classes, or even promotional events. You can wear some of these kurtas at home, for a (protected, sanitized) airport appearance or even to the next family gathering you may have. And not to forget, Raksha Bandhan is just a month away! So if you want to add some kurtas to your wardrobe, take a look at Khan and Kapoor’s comfortable choices…

Janhvi Kapoor in Punit Balana

Clashing prints aren’t a bad idea, and this Punit Balana kurta on Janhvi Kapoor is proof of the same. In early 2020, Kapoor was seen at the airport wearing this Punit Balana kurta set from his Bagru collection. The A-line kurta with block print all over and gold embroidery along the hem was beautifully complemented with a set of contrastingly patterned palazzo pants and a dupatta of the same print. Matching red juttis, jhumkas and an Off-White sling bag went well with the look. If you’re opting for this look for your next flight, don’t you miss the fluffy pillow. It is, after all, the most important accessory.

Janhvi Kapoor in Mulmul

Mulmul is a go-to brand for Janhvi Kapoor and her various outings have only reaffirmed the same. The Dhadak actress has time and again opted for chikan, cotton kurtas from the label for her comfortable outings, and we sure are a fan of the collection. In April last year, Kapoor was spotted at the airport in a lime yellow kurta set from Mulmul as she flew out of Mumbai to shoot for Roohi Afzana. To complement her outfit, Kapoor opted for silver earrings, comfy blue flip-flops and a Louis Vuitton sling bag. But what we love the most about this look is the comfy gharara from Mulmul.

If “delicate traditional wear” had a face, this kurta set on Janhvi Kapoor by Maayera Jaipur would be it. A printed kurta and pants sets with a sheer dupatta needs to be your go-to at the next puja you attend. Of course, you may just wear it at another casual outing you have, but this look is an ideal puja look. Pair it with traditional silver earrings and kolhapuris like Kapoor and you’re good to go!

Sara Ali Khan in Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla

Silver gota patti work on white is never a miss. Take cues from Sara Ali Khan’s Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla kurta set, comprising of an A-line kurta,  a churidar, and a matching dupatta. Khan wore this outfit at the screening of her latest release, Love Aaj Kal, which was a far cry from her entire promotional wardrobe, which consisted mainly of dresses and denims and tops and skirts. But a kurta is Khan’s safe space, and this one hit the bull’s eye. Wear this kurta set with statement earrings, bangles and juttis and you’re good to go!

Of course AJSK is a Sara Ali Khan favourite and we should all know this by now. In November last year, Khan was returning to Mumbai (not just another airport look), for which she chose an ivory kurta with a jacket, from Gulabo by Abu Sandeep, both of which had the designer duo’s signature gota patti work, with stripes in colours of pink, yellow and orange. Finish off your look, like Khan, with diamond studs and matching juttis to go with the look.

While this may appear to be a subtle piece at first glance, Sara Ali Khan’s Devnaagri kurta set was a far cry from that. Simple, yes, but this kurta set is detailed to the T. A beautiful, subdued colour, striking green and grey prints, and the use of perfect sheer (and block), this kurta set is something you definitely want in your wardrobe. Pair it up with statement juttis, and blow-dried hair.
