Netflix India announces 17 new originals: A Suitable Boy, Ludo, Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare and more

A new wave of entertainment, that’s what we’re calling our films in the middle of a pandemic. It’s not new that films are getting a direct OTT platform release. We have had films release on OTT platforms, but the difference in releasing films on an online streaming platform earlier and now is that earlier these films were designed to release on these platforms. Today, they’ve been made for the silver screen, but circumstances are forcing producers to opt for a direct digital release. While Amazon Prime has already seen the release of Gulabo Sitabo and will release Vidya Balan’s Shakuntala Devi this month and Disney+ Hotstar will release Dil Bechara and Lootcase this month, when it comes to Netflix India, their first direct release will be Janhvi Kapoor’s Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl.

But, nothing stops there. Seeing the continuous increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in India, producers are now opting for a direct digital release. Today, Netflix India took to their Instagram handle to announce the release of 17 Netflix Original films. Among the list are Anurag Basu’s Ludo (Abhishek Bachchan, Rajkummar Rao, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sanya Malhotra, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Pankaj Tripathi), Alankrita Shrivastava’s Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare (Konkana Sen Sharma and Bhumi Pednekar), Yami Gautam and Vikrant Massey’s Ginny Weds Sunny, the dysfunctional family drama Tribhanga – Tedhi Medhi Crazy (featuring Kajol, Tanvi Azmi and Mithila Palkar), Sanjay Dutt and Nargis Fakhri’s action-thriller Torbaaz directed by Girish Malik, Raat Akeli Hai that stars Radhika Apte and Nawazuddin Siddiqui and is the directorial debut of Honey Trehan, Gitanjali Rao’s animated film, Bombay Rose and Mira Nair’s much talked about A Suitable Boy starring Tabu, Ishaan Khatter and Tanya Maniktala among others. These are just some of the names.
