Starring Parineeti Chopra as the badminton champion, Saina releases in cinemas on 26th March…
Last night, Parineeti Chopra and the entire team of Saina released the trailer of Saina Nehwal’s much delayed biopic. The film traces the life of Saina Nehwal as a young girl in Haryana to being the best player in the world and then facing the criticism that comes with the tag. Saina Nehwal has had an inspiring career in badminton. A film based on her life will be nothing but exciting. But while we have a great director helming the film (Amole Gupte), the choice of the leading lady now seems questionable. From what we gather from the trailer, neither does Parineeti Chopra look the part, nor does she promise a great performance. Of course, it’s too soon to say anything, and I could totally be wrong, but this is my first impression of the film.
Of what we know, we know that Shraddha Kapoor gave her entire life to this film. She was looking the part and the pictures (from the sets) looked great. I can totally imagine Kapoor mouthing a dialogue like, “Main hara doongi unko, Great Wall of China tod doongi!” But when I heard Chopra say it, it wasn’t convincing at all. Again, time will tell how good a performer Partineeti Chopra is, but for now, the Saina trailer did nothing for me.
Directed by Amole Gupte, Saina releases in cinemas on 26th March. Watch the trailer here:
