The trailer of Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s much awaited Toofan is finally here! After waiting it out, given the Covid-19 pandemic, the makers of the film are finally releasing the film on July 16 on Amazon Prime Video.
The upcoming sports drama starring Farhan Akhtar in the leading role shows him as local gangster who eventually becomes a boxer. He becomes a celebrated athlete, but a twist in fate ends everything for him. Enter love. Mrunal Thakur seems to have gotten a meaty role, not just on screen, but also in Aziz Ali’s life. Her Pooja acts as the wind beneath Ali’s wings, making love a reason for his fight against his opponents, and on most days, against himself too. Paresh Rawal and Supriya Pathak appear in supporting roles as Ali’s coach and nurse. Both dependable actors, so we can only expect good from them and from this film.
While the film seems to follow the set template of the “rise from the ashes” sports biopic, what seems interesting is how Aziz Ali transforms from Ajju Bhai to this iconic boxer. The emotional precedes the physical in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Toofan and that’s something rare.
