Mrunal Thakur to play young Sivagami in Baahubali’s collaboration with Netflix

Netflix has signed 11 contracts with actors, producers and directors in India, but the most prominent of them all is their collaboration with producer Prasad Devineni, and together, they will be recreating the magical world of Baahubali. “We’re excited that Baahubali will find a global audience just like the films did. I think the series gives us the freedom to explore the origins of Sivagami,” said Netflix VP of production, Todd Yellin.

Season one of the Netflix series will comprise nine episodes based on Anand Neelakantan’s book The Rise of Sivagami, which tells the story of Mahishmati’s queen Sivagami. The titular character of young Sivagami will be essayed by Mrunal Thakur. “It’s a prequel to both films. It will take fans into the backstories of the characters from the films, and we’ll also be introducing new characters,” said Devineni.

At a session during Netflix’s ongoing event See What’s Next: Asia in Singapore, Thakur had said, She’s got the sense of motherhood but at the same time she has got the sense of what is right and what is wrong. She treats everybody equal no matter who it is. Through this project I’m living my dream,” adding, “It’s a big treat to work with this team. When I got to know that it was a Netflix project, I was even more excited. I was really very fascinated with the dialogue ‘Mera vachan, mera shasan‘ (My word is my governance). That really attracted me. For me, he (Rajamouli) is like the director to work with and start my career and to work with him was a delight,”

Mrunal Thakur made her smashing debut with possibly the best debut performance of recent times in Love Sonia and will be seen sharing screen space with Hrithik Roshan in Super 30 next and in Batla House.
